What let's the police down at times is that they are the absolute masters of looking after their own. It makes the organisation difficult to trust, especially the met police which is an absolute basket case of a force and has been for years. It is an unenviable difficult job but in the effort to maintain numbers, recruitment standards have fallen off a cliff to the point where all manner of sexual predators and common thugs get badges.
The era of camera phones has really shone a light on police incompetence and brutality and so much of it is avoidable by increasing the standards of recruitment.

Cressida Dick was a terrible chief - wholesale corruption, cover-ups, blatant favouritism and shit recruitment all on her watch. And she matches David Baddiel for being the joint worst guest on Desert Island Discs. Awful.

The minute they started making allowances to suit their diversity policies then maybe the quality of candidate was lessened. |
