Export 68 affilitates of the taxpayer-funded ERG and import 68 people destined for Rwanda to take their place. Might be one or two "bad apples" among them but at least we're chucking out 68 rotton ones.

They could just have set up a processing centre in Calais. When applicants get turned down they can seek asylum in France. If they get approved it’s only a short cheap journey to the U.K. The Rwandan deal only covers about 30% of applicants anyway.

Plus the added bonus of not having to explain to voters when it becomes widely known that the U.K. has to take a proportion of Rwandan nationals as part of the deal.

I agree that it is a crap policy but you don’t seriously think that people refused asylum would seek asylum in France do you? They’d just get on a boat and come over as they are doing now. If they wanted to seek asylum in France they could do so couldn’t they?

People who aren’t allowed in because they’ve been turned down may try to get into the country again it’s true, but it’s a lot easier to put them on a plane back to France or wherever as the process will have been exhausted and not easily open to legal challenge.

I don’t think the benefits system is necessarily better in the U.K. than in say France, Germany or Spain. It’s possibly because those who want to come here are either English speakers, have family here or worked for the British in places like Afghanistan.

Rather than getting in a wrangle with the civil service about changing the benefits system if the government and border force did their job and had a proper system in place as other countries do that would be a start.

How many of those coming across from France are escaping imminent death in their own countries? The vast majority of those coming across the channel are economic migrants pure and simple. Of course we were “multicultural “ before Blair, our islands have been multicultural since the very beginning. From hamlet to hamlet, village to village and region to region there have always been cultural differences within communities. If we wanted to continue stripping human assets from third world countries, we would continue to do so without the need for them to use dingies. Some are indeed fleeing war zones, the vast majority are not. Again, where are their female relatives. The Ukrainian men seem to be staying to fight. Sending their women and children to safety while they fight. Again the majority are economic migrants not refugees but you carry on swallowing that “they are all poor little refugee” bullshit. “Sending money home”? I’d be fooked if I’d leave my womenfolk in the middle of a war zone, while I could live safely to send money home! As for the “we take less than the rest of Europe”, another smokescreen. 75% of those seeking asylum have their refugee status accepted. That fact would indicate your feelings are wrong. Smirns, do you actually know the percentage of migrants seeking asylum versus all other migration? Its 6%.

And regarding Ukraine, they get a train to Poland and a flight to the UK. They don’t have to risk a slowly deflating dinghy in the middle of the channel or being asphyxiated in the back of a freezer container. These Ukrainians are fleeing from a war not of our making, whereas we left Afghanistan and Libya as failed states, we supplied the Saudi’s with the weapons to attack Yemen.
