Surprised to see England are still following this. Poland touched the respect badge on their arm instead.
Was I the only one to turn over and watch something else instead?

as per several retired and current footballers.
All live matters. Kick it out, or any of the other balanced equality campaigns great.
One race only, no matter which, no way.

I just switch over after kick off for any televised game.

Its a meaningless act of virtue signaling which in real life achieves nothing,

yep
just mindless trend following.

Which most definitely would not be carrying on if fans were in the grounds.

Would it be more palatable if it were "Black lives matter too"?

It's a bigger problem in the US as they're pretty much a broken society but there are still problems with racism in the uk.

PS like it or not, sports has always been used as a political tool since forever.

Tricky subject as no one could argue against its objectives, but I think the point gets lost when it is repeated every game, every week, endlessly. I wonder if even some players find it becomes a mindless pre-match ritual? I didn't notice the Poland act. Could be a good alternative. As for the game, well we used to complain about a lack of entertainment and passion at Fratton. I'm afraid tippy-tap, pass, pass, pass again, keep ball, never shoot... bores me rigid even though England clearly have a promising youngish side. Some similarities between Raggetino and Stones... good in the air, disaster waiting to happen on the deck!

Sport and politics shouldn't have to mix, but as long as players get racist abuse on social media they will always want to to make some gesture against racism, and that is a problem getting worse not better, however successful other attempts to take racism out of the game (and society) have been.

I agree that taking the knee has had its time though. It needs to be replaced by something else, and something without any association to BLM so people cannot use their political objection to BLM as an excuse for not wanting to support something that everyone should want to support.

We should all be trying to eradicate racism, that is a given. We are not the USA , their issues seem to go far deeper than ours when it comes to race for a number of obvious reasons. From were we where forty years ago up until today we have made remarkable progress in race relations, there are few societies on the planet that have done better. But it is a work in progress, we are not were we could be yet.
This is still a country with a huge white majority. It is that white majority that needs to be on board for progress to continue to be made. You keep them engaged by making them feel a part of the solution not by constantly telling them that it’s all their fault. The only question I would ask is, after a year of bending the knee do the majority of white people in this country feel more engaged in eradicating racism or less engaged. If the answer is that they are more engaged then great. If not questions need asking on what the future strategy should be. My own opinion is that identity politics generally have not delivered the outcome that was desired.

Agree with both the above. One issue is that the people who need to take heed of messages in whatever form are of course the ones that won't. Watching bfast TV (I know that's what I'm reduced to!!) today. Article about staggering amounts of litter. Usual pleading for people to take their litter home or use bins provided etc. Well, you can deliver that message 'til your blue in the face but no one who finds it funny to litter the environment is either watching or caring. Same for racism etc.. you can take the knee or whatever form it takes forever, but the perpetrators of racist abuse / social media abuse etc will never get the message. I guess it's up to individuals to call out the perpetrators when we see them... and that's a risky business!!

Is it Deep? Or is it just that we are being led to believe that it is.

Social media is not the real world is it? It’s where cowards go to say things to people that they wouldn’t have the bottle to in person.

Real racists need to be dealt with, pathetic tossers in their mum’s back bedroom, throwing out insults to get a reaction are best ignored IMO.

Don't worry, he's just a trolling dinosaur from the past who's as 'ard as nails and who laughs at people with cleft palates, colostomy bags and mobility scooters. Apparently he's very nice to his elderly neighbours though, or at least that is what he feels the need to tell us.

Met him back in the Rivals days along with Monaco and load of other posters at the time - Sav is actually a decent bloke and good company for a beer or two.

But he did keep telling us all how much he loved his nan a bit too often...
