The fact remains that if you left a man or two up, it would force the opposition to cover them, thus opening the game up.

Goalkeepers punching the ball leads to a very uncertain outcome, often putting it on a plate for oncoming forwards and at the very least giving away possession. Sometimes punching is the best option of course.

As for walking football, it must be very frustrating to play, there is always the urge to run, whether or not you are capable of it   .

I remember watching a game at H &W last season where the Away team left two really pacy players up when defending corners.

H & W had to leave 3 defenders back - even so the two forwards caused havoc every time the corner was cleared (which with less players in the penalty area it often was) which resulted in two goals for them.

It appears the vast majority of team coaches go by the coaching manual & bring everyone back - time for some enterprising coaches to think outside the box & start confusing the opposition by leaving different amounts of players up when defending corners.

It won't happen with these robotic programmed coaches though - play out from the back, tippy tappy it about until you can find an opening, play with inverted wingers, two holding midfielders & one up front........
