What mattered was that they were so so much classier than us in every department. And they were 18th in the table. ⁵
The result didn't matter

More importantly they changed the team and went for it second half, we were sent out to sit deep and see what happened.

I'm not bothered. Their mastery of a football was miles better than ours. And they were 18th.

I haven’t seen stats today. Apart from our goal did we have any shots on target. I can’t remember any..maybe the scramble just before the goal.

We have to survive until Christmas then hope Bishop can still poke a chance or two in at this level.
At the same time hoping for some point deductions, which given the state of club finances in the Champ are quite possible.

A wonder strike from Smith disguised how poor they were, they only had three shots on target all game and two of them went in. And I still think Windass should count as offside for their first. He was offside when Bannan crossed it, and I fail to see why Smith's header down should count as a separate 'phase of play'.

If so, the side view clearly shows Windass on the near post playing him on.

IIRC they had a defender back on the line playing everyone onside.

They weren’t classier, simply better organised and able to defend.
Smith’s goal, while a great strike, is one that he would miss 9 times out if 10 but which he had yards of space to make. He was under NO pressure. If we continue to defend like a parks side the prospects for the season look very bleak indeed.

Moon and Whitts concluded that Saydee was onside

Well that's what makes this such a great game. I saw a side using space intelligently, playing first time passes to progess up the pitch in a fluid and pacy style. And playing longer passes which were designed to take out a defender and set the attacker free in space. And what Deep saw was them being poor going forward.

Which is precisely what we were doing last year, either on the counter or through good midfield/attacker link up. Not sure why we are finding it impossible this season.

Only three shots on target suggests that Pompey’s defence were pretty solid, or Deep’s assessment is correct. Which one do we think is the right answer?

Saydee was standing in a potentially offside position when the corner was taken, but onside by the time O'Mahony headed it. |
