The average points total for survival is 47-48 points.
So 12 wins and a few draws should do it.
1 win in the bag, so 11 more wins needed.
So which 11 team are ripe for a beating?

Since the new EFL Championship was set up in 1992/93 the worst performance was in 2016/17 when Rotherham finished bottom with 23 points, that means we've got to find another 15 points from somewhere.

Difficult to see us getting more than 5 or so wins this season.

January really is massive this year.

I think what we have learned so far this season is that you can't do feck all in this league if you want to be sustainable. There are just too many owners in this league propping up clubs (with at least another two in brum and Wrexham coming next year). Doesn't help that our yoof set up I'd still shit and not an option for moose for the foreseeable future.

Agreed.

In a way the Eisner model of not wanting to lose too much much money is commendable and logical.

However it doesn't work in the championship or premiership, league 1 going that way too.

Either they invest more and accept heavier losses or they may have to sell.

We don't need 11 wins. If you need 48 points across 46 games you technically only need 1 win. Which we have done. Over the season, for every 2 losses we need 1 win, which we haven't done.

You can get away with being really shit if you don't lose many. That's where we have to start.

I believe Sunderland are following that policy of sustainability. The fans haven’t been happy about it till now but Dreyfus seems to have them on board at last.

It can never be a good thing to accept heavy losses ... we've been down that road before, and I'd rather never win another promotion than go down it again.

We are so lucky to have owners prepared to put 10s of millions into the club without a penny of it being a debt to the club. The fact that some impatient people want to criticise that model is staggering.

11 does seem like a lot for us at the moment. Have we got 6 in us?

January will decide.
