Don't just say "Pompey" you dins.

A team of your favourite players over the years.

Milkins
JohnsonG Went Blake TaylorM
Marinello Kennedy Kellard Merson Hilaire
Kemp Hiron

I was somewhat young for some of them and in hindsight my judgement may have not been the most astute.

(I also thought, "How the fuck is he going to make a footballer?" the first time I saw Darren Anderton play.)
Loved Marinello as he was our George Best, but he didn’t really achieve much.

picking 12 plyers is cheating !

Mine, picked more on who I liked most rather than who was the better player, would be ....

Knight
Neill De Zeeuw Primus Ley
Dillon Prosinecki Piper
Kemp Rafferty Biley
James
Ward, Gilbert, Distin, Beresford
Webb, Diarra, Stones, D'alessandro
Hateley, Walsh
Manager: Ball
Knight
Bobby Campbell's right back ,Herman,Noel Blake,Colin Sullivan
Vince, Prosinecki,Mick Tait, Rogers
Walshy, Whitts

Someone will remind me the name of the right back, I can see his picture in the news but can't recall his name!
Bobby Doyle? Whitehead?
Didn’t John McLaughlin play for Campbell? Plus Gary Stanley played during the Div 2 season.
Like DP more of my favourite players than the best team I would have picked.
Having said that I wouldn’t change the midfield.

           Knight
Johnson Went Distan Ley
Webb Dillon Diara Doyle
      Hatley Bailey

Manager Bobby Campbell
James
De Zeeuww Distin Webster
G Johnson Diarra Mendes M Taylor
Merson
Yakubu Whittingham
Following the Deep model, based on players I loved watching play for us my 11 would be:

James
Neill, Aizlewood, Distin, Beresford
O'Callaghan, Kennedy, Dillon, Jennings
Rafferty, Walsh

Manager: Ballie
My team

Knight
Swain, Aizlewood, Gilbert M Taylor
Merson, Kennedy, Diarra, Mendes
Quinn Yakubu

Joint Managers Cambell / Ball
Shaka
Neill,Linvoy,Distin,Beresford
Chamberlain, Smertin,Merson,Rogers
Hately,Walsh

Manger: Harry & Jim
Trying to fit D'Alessandro, Merson, Diarra and Prosinecki into the same midfield - evil!
Looks like I’m the only one to fit Pedro Mendes into their starting 11. His ‘rocket man’ goal against West Ham at Upton Park in our ‘great escape’ season always sticks in the memory and so does his vital winner against Man City in the same season another cracking goal
When the ball hits the net
Like a fuckin rocket
Pedro Mendes! (That's Amore)

West Ham away, great memories

Twelfth man innit! Smile

I can't believe I forgot Walsh and Webb.

And Hateley.

And Piper. And Mendes.

And Trebilcock for the Arsenal equaliser.
Should me make it a best squad then , Mikey ? Lol
Love these types of threads. I want to 'like' every post  Big Grin
Favourite (not necessarily best) team
James (Knight and fatty Milkins squad back up)
Johnson Blake DeZeeuw Sullivan
Dillon Yosser Merson Prosi
Guy Walshy
Subs: Rogers, Gilbert,Went, Macca, Dalessandro, Piper, Marinello
Hate to leave others out but how many reserves can we have Mikeyyyy?
I'd have Blake. Gilbert, Kennedy and Tait with 7 others lol
I'm going to have to organise a play-off match to decide my selection.  As with others' choices, not necessarily the very best players, but the ones whom at the time I've particularly enjoyed watching for whatever reason.
Team A would be:

Shaka
Johnson, G, De Zeeuw, Dickinson, Taylor, M
Webb, Prosinecki, Berger, O'Callaghan
Hately, Todorov

Team B:

Milkins
Davies, Primus, Distin, Ley
McClelland, Merson, Kennedy, d'Alessandro
Whittingham, Biley.

For some reason, I think we've had more memorable left backs than right backs - I even thought of Roy Lunniss as a candidate!  Am I the only one to have chosen Jimmy D?
Southsea, not many on here saw him play. Butch did of course, he even saw Jack Tinn.
Heavens, I didn't realise I was quite so ancient, even among ancients!

I preferred Knight to Arthur Conan Doyle
