Not totally sure but From about 1940 to 1950 U.K. operated on GMT +1 in the winter (equivalent of modern British summer time) and GMT +2 in the summer (double summer time). Matches kicked off at 3 or 3.15 with ten minutes for half time. Evening games if played at all were played in August and up to mid September.

I believe I'm right in saying that evening games in September and April started at 6pm.

Reckon kick-off times could get even worse in the not too distant future. As China and India make up 40% of the world's population and the middle class in these countries continues to grow, tv schedules will increasingly pander to their needs. I predict the day will come when a Sky "Super Sunday" will comprise, league 2 games kicking off at 7am, league 1 at 9am, championship at 11am and premier league at 1pm...... perfect timings for a feast of English football for those fans in Asia!

I'd like more games midweek under the lights!
I'd like to see pompey fans make some fucking noise again but alas.....

If the team give us performances we'll make the noise but alas..... |
