He was static for their goal - should have been on Collins - otherwise had a pretty good game. Haven’t seen us defend so deep and have such a crowded box this season as we did today. Seemed chaotic at times but we rode it out.

For the first time in a few games I thought Shaughnessy was the better of the pair today. CS was much more like his earlier season self.

Just Raggett instantly controlling a ball that came down with snow on it like prime Maldini. He probably wasn't ever as bad as people said he was when he was getting all the criticism but I feel he has also come on a fair way this season. There's half a chance that he has just had his last home game as a Pompey player today. So I'm glad he got a great reception.

I'd probably offer him a contract, on the understanding that he might not play much. He might choose to get another promotion charge in league one on that basis.
Linvoy ws written off. Sadly so was Mick Tait and never the got the chance to try.

Not much in it if we want to finish above relegation next year but he won't play that much either. He will be 3rd choice save for injuries. Up to him if he wants to take the gamble and be cheap but I reckon he will want to be playing every week

Agree with slayer.
He won't let anyone down but at 31 will want to be playing I'd have thought. McIntyre and Poole returning, before upgrades are considered. May be wrong but suspect he'll be eying up a return to Gillingham who have got a bit of money at the moment.

It depends. He might want to try and keep the momentum going and stay with the challenge of once again establishing himself knowing that Mcintyre is a bit injury prone and Poole is coming back from a bad one.
My gut feeling is that he might want to leave though. Gillingham are a possible option but I feel like he has more than put himself in the shop window for League One offers. Charlton might be a good fit for him.

I don't think Poole is expecting to be ready until September earliest so Raggett may yet have a role early season if club/player consider it possible.

I think the big choice is who JM will play as his left sided CB. Shaughnessy has been immense this season but we haven’t bought McIntyre to sit on the bench.

I admit it would be fairly extraordinary for a CB to be a key part of a League One title winning side and then drop down a division whilst bit being all that old.

He's from Gillingham and started out there.
For most people that would be enough to rule them out. But for some reason he remains fond of the place.

I'd think he's worth a 12 month contract. Been extremely loyal, always gives 100% effort. Good positional sense & scores the odd goal. Poole & McIntyre likely to be the starters then Shaugnessy you'd think.

Is Shaughnessy that much better?

They’ve worked well. I’d offer him a new contract, not sentimentality, but more like a performance bonus as a taste of the money gained by promotion.

Thank you Raggs. Hopefully he's got a well paid gig in his immediate future.

Sad to see him go, he has been an excellent servant to us in League One but the reality is he wouldn't have played much this season if Poole hadn't had the injury and don't feel he is Championship standard. Wish him all the very best for the future and he has my deep respect. Certainly a club legend for the 21st century.

His stock has risen hugely this season. At the start of this season he was being linked with league 2. While he may still choose a league 2 side, it would now feel like he is selling himself well short if he did.
The last link to the Jackett era on the playing side of things is now gone. It shows how quickly things move on in football, especially at this level.

A nice free transfer with a big signing on bonus and another season of going for promotion or play offs I'm sure. I wonder if he fancies Wales (or more importantly do his family?)
01-05-2024, 07:43 PM
I hope, as Hammie said elsewhere, that it means he gets a decent signing-on bonus at a promotion-chasing side. He’s been a big part of what’s been achieved this season. Best of luck, Raggs and thanks for the attitude.

If we were picking one from the team for the hall of fame, I think he might be first in line from a fan vote.

There are dissenters!
"I would drop Raggett. We are at an immediate disadvantage when he's in the team". "We cannot get promotion with Raggett and/or Towler playing" |
