He was at the helm the first time I witnessed Pompey ever achieve anything. 1979-80 I think. I remember the Northampton game and the Guildhall square do with FB urging everyone to 'give us the Chimes'. RIP

I remember him with great affection. That promotion season restored a lot of pride to the City. R.I.P. Frank.

Lots of great memories from his two spells as manager here. He took the helm from Jimmy Dickinson and (IIRC) sold Steve Foster to buy Steve Aizlewood and a couple of others ,(Archie Styles, Alan Rogers, Joe Laidlaw). It was a great time to be a Pompey fan, exciting football lots of goals and big crowds. RIP Frank.

and the day Deacon appointed him...
"this is all very well, but one day you will sack me" Blunt, good football, fitted Pompey perfectly!

Remember him signing Steve Aizlewood and John McLaughlin from Swindon for not a lot of money. Between them they played 350 league games for Pompey. RIP Frank

Northampton was a massive day for Pompey fans; there and later in Trafalgar square......
The team he put together in those days was special - Macca one of my all time favourite midfield generals . A no nonsense bloke who knew football INSIDE OUT - RIP Frank.

I started with Bobby Campbell's promotion team really. Sounds Like Frank laid the foundations.

People may have forgotten what a long, long time it had been for us to experience ANY kind of success before Frank came along. He was a one-off, a true character. One Frankie Burrows, there was only one Frankie Burrows....
