Just read an interview Danny Cowley gave after last night’s match. I think it gives an insight into his convoluted thinking and explains some of his bizarre selection and tactics:
‘Louis is an eight, but had to play out of position in that holding midfield role, which is not ideal. It changes his pictures and body position’.
Footballers are not ‘8’s’ or ‘10’s’ ffs.
A midfielder or attacker should be able to play in several positions in the team. OK they may be better in one position or other but they are footballers ffs. Positions are not set in stone and interchange goes on all the time.
‘Pictures and body position’ have fuck all to do with it.
Modern methods are too obsessed with ‘body shape’ and seem to have lost sight of the object of the game, which is to score fucking goals.
Still Cowley has admitted that not playing Jacobs was a mistake, so perhaps progress is slowly being made.
