A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.
Pointless wasting an appeal.
For the record, I thought it soft. Maybe a booking. I have seen worse given a booking. Depends if you play for Manchester U or City. Or Chelsea or - should I go on?
You say it is potentially foul play, then read out a rule that doesn’t remotely describe the challenge.
I definitely think it’s worth an appeal.

Whether you think that the challenge was not excessive, as do I, it's not what that ref thought on Saturday.
So in his head he saw that challenge as endangering the safety of an opponent and therefore a straight red.
Like I said it was soft and a poor decision in my mind.
