Bishop's holdup play and flick ons mean you have to play him as the 10 when Dane is around, but my God you want him as a 9

And the blues go marching on, on, on.

Job done in the end against a poor side, any danger from Burton came from our mistakes frankly which they failed to capitalise on. Dale was my man of the match, but a great finish from Bishop for the second decisive goal. I'm not altogether convinced that the midfield is really up to scratch and there isn;t a ball winner there .

Hi Ash, congratulations on the 6 grandchildren mate. Didn't know you had a girlfriend, let alone children. Also, safe trip home with the brothers tonight. PUP.

The ref was utter garbage kept stopping the game, missed a nailed on pen and to disallow that goal and call it back for a foul on us was atrocious. Hope we don't get that idiot again.

Didn't he call it back for a foul by Scarlett?

Poor decision that could have changed the game. The ref just wouldn't let game flow Was sure he was going red card someone also, when Raggett got the yellow???

By all accounts, Dale had a good game last night, which is good to hear, as he hasn't quite been there up to now.

Think he's settling in now, although he played very well. We still look a little lightweight in midfield, but Burton did set out to spoil the game, and it worked.

He's very nippy and sometimes seems to beat himself but gets in good crosses and is a very good addition to the team. Pack was quieter last night, Ogilvie excellent bar a couple of occasions when he was required to use his right foot. Raggett is a colossus at this level, wins 95% of everything in the air. Robertson playing well at the moment with a cultured left foot. Morrison solid. Griffiths decidedly dodgy on two occasions, very lucky not to gift them a goal with a terrible pass to Raggett which was intercepted and they were 2 on 1 but managed to bungle it. Lowery generally good, a bit lightweight. Bishop back on goal trail after a few quiet matches. Scarlett terrorised them early on and scored a great goal which could easily have stood. Curtis worked hard although not much coming off for him at the moment. Subs not much time although Koroma looks good. Hackett did his usual long run but this time his shot was wide when a ball slipped through to Koroma was an almost certain goal.
All in all a positive night with 3 points and a clean sheet against a hard working but lacking in skill Burton side. They had a couple of good strong forwards and were unlucky to have an equaliser chalked off for a marginal offside. On to Plymouth, mahoosive game, PUP

I do agree that Griffiths is the weak link in our defence.

A weak link that's kept a clean sheet in 50% of the games he's appeared in this season - I'm happy with that. In saying that, his misplaced 'pass' last night...good grief! I thought we did well last night against a team that was really set up not to lose and made it really difficult, cramming their defence with nine outfield players most times we attacked. When Burton did attack we were strong and the back four played really well, especially the two in the middle who won pretty much everything thrown at them. In all honesty us scoring four or five wouldn't have been a surprise and I couldn't see what was wrong with Scarlett's disallowed goal as he seemed to step away from Brayford, although that seemed enough for the ref to blow for a foul. It wasn't a classic match but Pompey were well organised and saw out the game. Good to see Bishop back on the scoresheet too. Got to wonder about some of our supporters though - we win 2-0 but they felt the need to smash up some of the kids toys stored on the central stairwell in the away end. Complete melts.

His clean sheet record is thanks to several goal line clearances from our defence, plus his ‘misplaced passing/clearances’ have happened more than once. Our weak link as far as I’m concerned. McGillvary? was a better keeper IMO

McGillvary? was a better keeper IMO So just to make this clear, when the team keeps a clean sheet it's down to the players in front of him but not the keeper, whereas when a goal gets conceded that's down to the keeper and not the defence? OK, I see where you're coming from now. There's no doubt he's an inexperienced keeper and it pisses me off that we seem to be developing players for clubs higher up the ladder, which is an old conversation that we've all had on here many times, but he's in goal for us and so he'll get my support. Facts are facts - when he's played this season we've kept clean sheets in half of those games and right now we are looking at a record of eight league games with six wins and two draws. And still people aren't happy...

I still have some doubts about him, mostly his poor distribution, but worth remembering his terrific save at 0-1 against Peterbrough probably brought us all 3 points in the end.

Calm down Rich, it’s a message board and we’re having a debate. I’ve never said I’m not happy ( far from it in fact), and I always support our players ( some past managers not so). I’ve stated that IMO Griffiths is our weak link and hopefully we won’t buy him should the chance arise. The goal line clearances I’m talking about came about from bad decisions or positioning from Griffiths. However he’ll be in goal again on Saturday and I’ll be hoping he plays a blinder.

Bishop is scoring the goals our strikers from the previous 3 or 4 seasons couldn't. He times his runs, is usually in the right place and that place is usually in the box.

Yep, the leagues second top scorer. Top scorer is some bloke called Chaplin.... never heard of him... wonder if he's any good?

The goal line clearances I’m talking about came about from bad decisions or positioning from Griffiths. However he’ll be in goal again on Saturday and I’ll be hoping he plays a blinder. I was never anything but calm and agree, it's a message board and there are always going to be conflicting opinions on players and match performance (and then there's guffer, but no one cares about that). No doubt Griffiths has made a couple of rickets already but I remember Bazunu looking shaky at times, McGillivray was hardly faultless and went through a period where anything from distance seemed to get past him with ease and the same for McGee before him. But that's the problem being in L1/L2 that in goal we're going to get either kids starting out in the game or older players on their way down the leagues. And that's where being a team makes the difference between success and failure. We aren't conceding that many because as and when Griffiths messes up he's got a Raggett, Robertson or Morrison behind him covering, and conversely when one of them makes a mistake there's Griffiths to cover for them. I think that's why I'm relaxed about the defence as there's a good blend of experience and youth across the back line and sure we'll lose games, and last season Tuesday night would probably have seen us scrape a draw or worse, but six wins and two draws in the first eight for a squad still finding its feet is excellent. I'm a pessimist by nature but bloody hell, this team might have me smiling by Christmas if this carries on! |
