I really don't get it. There's a certain homoeroticism to the idea that certain men only want to watch men play football.

It’s strange that there are no out gay male footballers but all women players are lesbians.

Whilst the dimensions of a size 5 can vary, the ball used in elite competition is the same. From the BBC "Should women play with a different-sized ball? Women's rugby is played on the same-sized pitch, with the same laws and same size five ball as men's rugby." The Gilbert ALLIANZ PREMIER 15S REPLICA BALL used in the women's pro league is the same size as the GILBERT SIRIUS MATCH RUGBY BALL used in the six nations.

Such deep seated sexism here many of you can't even see the issue. Mansplaining how women should play a game.
I reckon women are more than capable of deciding what's best for themselves how they play a sport.

Then why do we have women commentators/ presenters on mens football commentating on a standard of football they’ve never played.
No reason other than tokenism

That's such an absurd statement I can't quite believe you took the time to type it. Apart from anything else it has nothing to do women playing sport. But let's address the issue of people commentating on a sport they've never played (or never played professionally) to examine just how stupid your statement is. Here's a list of some commentators you might recognise. Football John Motson Clive Tyldesley Alan Parry Jim Rosenthal Guy Mowbray Martin 'AGUEROOOO' Tyler Kenneth 'Some people are on the pitch' Wolstenholme Alan Green Cricket Henry 'Blowers' Blofeld Christopher 'CMJ' Martin-Jenkins And possibly the greatest of them all, Brian 'Johnners' Johnston Motor Racing Murray Walker Boxing Harry Carpenter Not a single one played professional sport.

They come from a different era. I’m talking about the current and now. It is now the norm to have ex players commentating and on a panel.
It obviously wasn’t a waste of my time typing/ texting my opinion as you took time to read and answer it.

A 5'6 keeper ain't getting near anything near the corners, and the shooting lacks enough power to be effective from long range. It's not a dig, would genuinely improve the gameNo, would mean less goals and goals are what it's all about. If anything increase the size of men's goals and increase the pitch size all to reflect the fact that male footballers are much bigger than they were when the association was formed

Wrong about CMJ. He was a very accomplished cricketer and one of the leading authorities on the game for years. Alex Scott isn't fit to clean his box.

Oh, a different era, like Andy Moon you mean. Grasping at straws.
CMJ's highest level was a single second XI game. Hardly an experienced professional. Quacking like a sexist. Desperate.

We’ll done you found Andy Moon to support your argument , you can lay down now and have a peppermint tea poor thing.

Please think before you answer that. CMJ was recognised worldwide as a true great. I sincerely doubt anyone has ever said he was a poor commentator because he was not a rank and file professional. Incidentally, in women's cricket the boundaries are far shorter and the ball lighter than in men's cricket.

You lot can't stop digging can you. Is it some kind of race to the bottom stupidity contest or a tribute to Bernard Cribbins?
The statement was "Then why do we have women commentators/ presenters on mens football commentating on a standard of football they’ve never played." Well CMJ never played to to the standard he commentated so brilliantly on, namely Test Match Cricket. So you can get back in your cricket box. As poor Andy Moon is not glamorous enough for you lets look higher up the broadcasting tree. Tell you what, let's go to the top, the biggest football broadcaster, Sky. Here's a large selection of the current crop, male presenters and commentators. Definitely not yesterday's men, trusted to offer opinion on the beautiful game. Not a single one played football at any recognisable level. Shame on Sky for foisting these charlatans on us. Robbie Savage must be fumin'. David Jones Graham Little Alan Parry Bill Leslie Daniel Mann David Stowell - ooh wait a minute, I'm wrong. This one has real pedigree. Barry Town, Saltash United & Union Club Astillero Gary Taphouse Ian Crocker Jim Proudfoot Martin Tyler Rob Hawthorne Andy Burton - Another one with form. Scout at AFC Bournemouth for less than a season! Geoff Shreeves Greg Whelan Jeff Stelling Julian Warren

These are commentators who have an ex pro with them. They are like presenters to avoid dead air and give out stats. Jeff Stelling is 100% a presenter who has ex pros giving updates on the games.

Women can play football if they want, I just don’t want to watch it so I don’t.
Don’t think that makes me sexist?
28-07-2022, 02:34 PM
I don't much care the background of the "commentator" but they should be the best available.
Sadly some of the new ones are awful on football or cricket. No such thing as a voice test (for radio) nowadays? Having said that, Bob Willis was dire when he started and Alan Knight's voice was not the most exciting. The current fad for ex players also pushes out proper journalists who have a right to make a living, to me ahead of retired millionaires!

I’ve never had any interest in women’s football but have seen some of the games and am mildly surprised at the skill level in general. Hope we win too, haven’t won a major competition since 66. Come on girls. Show the men how it’s done and give the country something to cheer about in these troubled times.
