However, it will be foolish to say looking for a new head coach will have no impact on (transfer) business.
‘It will impact it slightly because you obviously want to align the type of player to a particular manager, so it could mean we might not be as quick with a lot of players we want. There’s more in the article on the news site but we shouldn’t be signing any senior players without someone in the role. You can’t force players on a manger (HC) and then sack him if the players don’t perform if he hasn’t signed them. I cannot see anyone who has managed accepting this, it can only be someone who is currently a coach.

T’would seem to point that way, wouldn’t it? Who fits that bill?
Mind, if the new boy coming in has a big say in who gets signed, what’s the difference between him and a ‘manager’?

Who gets sacked if the players aren’t good enough? Hughes?
Any on the list who are coaching in the Prem, they’ll pretty much be doing the same thing here, taking training and being in the dug out.

What I still don't get Cunning, is you seem to like your stats, but ignore that Pigott's stats for goals and assists per minute in league games are significantly better than Scarlett's. Yet you deride Pigott on the strength of his stats while supporting Scarlett. Help me understand.

Fair question.
Scarlett isn’t performing either, not in the scoring dept. He does at least threaten though. It’s a bit like watching Hirst at the start of last season but, unfortunately, without Hirsts ability to actually hold the ball up. I suppose we have to take his age into account and he might well be a star in the making but (as G100 has correctly stated) at our expense. Pigott, on the other hand, has shown no threat at all. The ball bounces off him and he looks very poor. Sometimes a player clicks at certain clubs and it seems that he was an absolute star at Wimbledon. We’ve had very recent experience of Marquis though and Bristol are not finding success with him either. Doncaster had the best of him. Yes, stats can be misleading but goals scored is the most important one for a striker. It’s fair to ask how many games he has started but it’s also pertinent to question how many games he should start. I’ve seen him play in the cup games he has started and he’s been, quite frankly, bloody awful. If I were to point to one of Cowleys failings, it’s choosing to buy the right strikers. Pigott is another Marquis (but without the running around like a headless chicken). Scarlett is, for me, a season too early for us. I hope he comes good, for the sake of his career, but I don’t think we’ll see the benefit. It’s just my view but it’s a considered one.

Hirst has gone to Ipswich.
Presumably Ipswich do not want Piggott back then?

Rich Hughes can probably do many things, but write his own contract, hire himself, and cause players already at the club before his arrival to be made of glass, is probably beyond the limit of his powers.
