The longer they take, the less time the new person has to reshape the squad. But Hughes won't see that as a problem, because he can sign and release players. But it is a problem because no worthwhile coach or manager will want to take on a bunch of (probable) stroppy donkeys that someone else has chosen.

And, playing wise, we are interested in players we can improve and make a profit on, right?
And to improve the quality of the squad with loan players.
So, it seems that to be signed at the moment, you need to be young and not very good. So you can improve and make us a profit.
Then, the new coach, who as described above cannot be worthwhile, can never progress the club. No choice of players, may turn some into good players, they'll be sold, start again. This is not an inspiring business model.
