Frustrating going forward', frustrating injuries just frustrating generally. The league is there for the taking at present too. Oxford and Exeter first and second for crying out loud.

Early days. We all looked at our squad and felt that had improved.
So we need to what barnsley usually do and just keep on keeping on, with no collapses like in previous years. Not very exciting though.

I got lambasted for thinking the game against Exeter was boring. I left just before the goal was scored.
I left early against Cheltenham but stayed for tge entirety of todays offering! I have not seen a goal in nearly three hours of football! First the positives, at least we are keeping clean sheets against mighty Exeter, Cheltenham and Stevenage. The rest isn't entertainment, it's fecking boring. It's ponderous, predictable and frankly clueless. It's got to change for me otherwise I'll probably start to think about doing something else for the time being. It's tantamount to watching paint dry. Stevenage were a very average side who play that awful Steve Evans annoyance. We didn't even look like scoring. I can actually take draws that are entertaining and or away but pompey just look the same home and away. How can you have that much possession and do fuck all with it. Bishop must've thought it would be Xmas with the signings on the wing this season but it's so slow that he has often run, stopped and turned around to find the ball with our keeper AGAIN. Ffs please be more entertaining, this is dross in the extreme.

As expected. Stevenage are no pushovers this season.

We could try getting the ball to the wingers quickly, offering them a wall pass inside and thus a quick one two to run at and frighten the full backs.

We could try banning backward passes.

To me that knits in with sideways and backwards play. Alternatively we could play him on the right and give him a chance to put in crosses that will naturally bend away from the keeper.

Whyte has played on the left in the past too, so maybe the solution is to swap them over. Bit surprised they haven't done that during games anyway - a fairly common tactic to unsettle the defence. Scully has not been awful IMO so far (apart from some of his corners). He hasn't played much football in the past year so probably needs games to get back to his best. I like the fact that he is constantly busy even without the ball and the way he gets into the box regularly, especially when its coming in from the right. You can see why his goalscoring record is quite good. But Whyte looks devoid of confidence and needs to improve if he is to keep Lane out of the team.

Shocked as I am, I can only agree with all those comments Deep.

Plenty of left wingers are right footed (and vice versa). Whyte & Lane (& Sparkes) can also play that role so why sign another when you've already got 4 ? |
