We have wasted his time and he has wasted ourselves. Put it down to experience and let him go!
Hume wants out

Was it £500k we paid for him or was that just a rumour?
17-08-2023, 08:18 PM
£200k was always the reported fee.

Plus his wages

He will probably get a game on Tuesday. An absolutely disastrous panic signing. Not his fault at all though, just bad recruitment.

Not worth the fee, but not at all a bad player from what I've seen of him.
If we cannot fit him into the squad then whatever we get or don't get for him will free up wages. Of course his wages may be the problem as we signed him on a fee for three years.

He is still potentially OK, but now 3rd or even 4th in the pecking order so as others have said it's probably better all-round if he moves on.

Annoying as those were the sort of deals that killed us when we went bust and got relegated. Pretty sure Hughes would not have sanctioned the move.

Should have spent that money on Pring or Seddon. He was average for Sunderland and also very injury prone.

Seddon not pulling up any trees, last time I heard.

Hume was a decent wing back when DC signed him with idea of playing 3-5-2 as I remember. He then got injured like most of our signings D.C. changed to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 in some games. He was frozen out so his value dropped.
Mingi I thought was a decent attacking midfielder who need more consistency. I did have a couple of outstanding games for us but his greedy agent got involved trying to engineer a move to another club on higher wages but they all dropped out. He's still young & needs a better advisor. Curtis, no idea what's going on there. was injured for a long time end of last season & seemed to have lost his mojo. Again a decent player on his day.

Poole?

We don't want him and he's on half decent money for third tier and under contract so he ain't going anywhere unless we give him a lucrative pay off...can't blame him really.

I suspect the same discussions will be going on about Paddy Lane who Hughes did sign for a similar amount. Not all signings are successful. For every Curtis Lowe Bishop etc you will get the odd Hume Harrison etc.

I think the structure we have in place now makes total duds less likely than they were when the Milwall mafia and the utterly useless Roberto Gagliardi were here. I'm maybe being a bit unfair to Catlin there but things look better now. In recent years the permanently injured Lloyd Isgrove on loan and the very fishy permanent signing of Bryn Morris stand out as stinkers.
Marquis and Harrison were more damaging and long term costly flops. Both had their moments but in terms of suitability for the system Jackett played and value for money both were total disasters. We were all frustrated at the lack of backing in January 2019 and I think this was a bit of an overcorrection in some ways. That disastrous investment definitely made the Eisner's cagey about making big money signings. Some signings loan or permanent just don't work out despite looking like good business. I thought Omar Bogle would tear it up for us but was born offside. Dane Scarlet and Josh Koroma had me believing that Danny Cowley's blue army would piss the league but they just pissed me off. Tyler Walker too. I also remember thinking that Jason Pearce would take Pompey back to the Prem and would emerge s the natural heir to John Terry for England which is why I am never going to be in charge of a football clubs recruitment.

I doubt anyone at the club is writing him off. |
