Edmondson starts for Ipswich today

Off to a great start but we’ve just given a soft equaliser away. 1-1

Judging by Bishop’s muted reaction to that goal, the moaners are doing a good job in driving him out of the club.

There was a rendition of Magic Hat just after he scored

Good half.

Great half of football, attacking intent, two goals, shame that as usual an ex-Pompey boy scores against us. Not surprising I suppose as they've got enough.
Norris- fantastic save and better distribution, Dunno why he always plays out through Raggers rathger than Shockers. I suppose teams suspect he's weaker and let us do it Sparkes - linking up well with Lane, ok in defence Shocker - excellent, strong and decisive Raggers - done everything asked of him with a couple of towering headers and generally distributing the ball well Rafferty - looks really good going forward and doing well defensively Pack - keeping up his incredible form. Looking really hungry and even fast at times Morrell - doing well, mopping up as usual and keeping it flowing going forward Robertson - much better today and got the assist Lane - took it well, in the corner Bish - got his goal, predator's goal. Battling away with the defence and getting some nice flicks Kamara - got Butler on toast, should have scored when clean through. Give it to him more Need then three points, only team in top 7 winning at the mo

How many feckin chances does Kamara need FFS.

So where are the WUMs and the numpties today.
That was a real test and Stevenage were very impressive. We were put under the heaviest sustained pressure I can recall, this season. You can see why they are right up there. Having said that, some of Pompeys play was sublime, the passing was slick and accurate. Just that end product that is missing. Kamara puts those three chances away and we would have cruised it. We came through it. Top of the league!!!

We looked great in the 1st half, It does worry me when we pass it around the back though. Need some shooting practice.

We did very well today.
Does that make me very happy or annoyed that we did not put in half the effort against the weaker sides of late?

It was panic defending in the last 20 mins. We need to keep possession and the best form of defence is not to panic and attack.

I thought we were better toward the end, from about 50 to 75 we needed someone brave enough to put their foot on the ball and just invite fouls. Devlin made a difference for a knackered Lane, should have subbed Saydee on a Kamara off at the same time, we desperately needed fresh legs out there.

Good side Stevenage. Physical and capable. And the tellytubby manager obviously knows how to put a side together and get them to play. Great result.

Stevenage's entire game plan was to get a free kick in our half (which the ref more often obliged) and then thump the ball in the general direction of the penalty area to get their chances. That was it. They also had an Xmas game conveniently postponed giving them extra resting time. I'm glad it didn't work. I didn't like our defensive play in the second half but the team were running on empty and being kicked all over the park. Stevenage rely on intimidating the ref - a tactic that often works considering the pisspoor level in l1. I can see why this anti-football thuggery has resulted in them doing well. Got 3 points from a fecking dirty team so I'm happy.

Given that so many of their players used to play for us, none of them were renowned as particularly dirty. Physical yes but the boot from Thompson was a bit of a surprise.
I guess if you want to compete with clubs with a lot more money, you have to find a way.

Our record and performances against other teams near the top has been excellent so far this season. Thought our 1st half today was the best we have played since the Bolton game. Wish we could raise our performances against the lesser teams to the same level.
01-01-2024, 07:00 PM
spot on.
and our next 7 or 8 games are against "lesser" teams.

Plenty of twists and turns yet. 4 points in two games is promotion form. Let's have back to back wins in January and get the feel good factor back.
Lots of pressure on Bolton to win their game in hand and maintain their run. I expect them to fluff it. Needed an own goal to win today.

Great result, a much-needed result.
Coby Bishop, getting on the scoresheet, was good to see also. Some of the criticism has been over the top. He doesn't get a lot of service in some games, which makes it hard for him to get involved. He will get near 20 this season, some might be penalties, at least we have someone that doesn't miss them A Tough game, in which I thought Stevenage were a bit dirty 6 yellows 2 reds confirm that. Horrendous tackle from Thompson, what was he thinking? Hopefully the team will take some confidence from that result. We could do with some of our injured players back. A couple of players on the bench have been disappointing thus far for me. Shout out to the back-line today, they stood firm against the hoof and chasers, well done! PUP!

Big shout out for the younger players who have stood up and been counted this season (Lane, Kamara, Robertson) while the exp players who were meant to be the ones to push us to promotion have disappointed (Scully injured of course, Whyte). I don’t know how far these youngsters can go in the game but they have been a joy to watch with their enthusiasm and degrees of success so far.

Significant though the contributions of Lane, Kamara & Robertson have been it is the experienced players like Pack & Morrell that have been the ones pushing us to promotion. And I'd add Rafferty, Poole (then Raggett), Shaughnessy & Bishop to the list of experienced players who have excelled.

Rafferty excellent last few games, especially linking going forward and crossing
