yes, it certainly is very embarrassing.
JM should put a stop to it.

odd how he has got to be the best keeper for clean sheets in the country, but he doesn't feel that good to us in some ways? a well set up team and defence helps of course. and maybe a defender as manager helps with that

He has his foibles but we couldn't really have asked for much more from him this year realistically. Having a permanent keeper again at last is massively stabilising after having a mixed bag of loan keepers with the excellent Bazunu (even if he did sign for that lot), the abysmal Griffiths and the solid enough Macey. His style suits the way we play and the results are there for all to see.

He fucks about. Once or twice a season he gets found out for it. If he cut that shit out he would play at a far higher level. Maybe we will be the beneficiaries.

These days though, Managers prefer to have a goalie who makes a few blunders a season as long as they are useful with their feet and distribute well. The role has changed a lot. There are skme great shot stoppers put there who don't get a look in at the elite level because they can't play out the back.

There is certainly not much wrong with a keeper whose team is…
Top of the league!

I'm obviously missing something, but I'm struggling to understand what is apparently so tricky about playing out from the back that only elite-level goalkeepers can manage it. Could someone please enlighten me.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't Banks serve out to the fullbacks a lot, especially Cohen(gentleman George) who used to bomb up the right flank?

Passing out to the full back is one thing, giving it to the centre halves with a striker breathing down their neck is very different. We saw the result of that last time Schofield played and Devlin played deep.
In the warm ups, you can see Norris practicing repeated kicks to the wings about half way. That used to be Dave Beasant's specialty.

I said that goalkeepers who can't play out from the back don't get a look in at elite level, not that only elite level goalies can play out from the back, it's sounds a small correction but makes all the difference. The goalie who is good with the ball at their feet is what elite clubs tend to want these days. Give a Man City a choice between an adequate to good shot stopper who can distribute well and is good with his feet or an excellent shot stopper who is dodgy with balk at feet and aimless in his clearance and they take the former every time.

I'm quite happy with him mostly, but the sitting down, collapsing and all the rest hacks me off. Don't care what other teams do, I don't like Pompey doing it. At a higher level the referees might be prepared to properly stop him doing it. If he got a couple of double yellow red cards, i would not see we could complain.
