According to Carlisle stats, they mostly play 5 across the middle and he usually occupies the middle slot. Don’t know if squad numbers mean anything any more other than 1 or 9, but Moxon wears 4, whether that’s his role I’m not sure. But with Pack out temporarily and Stevenson out long term , that only leaves us with vertically challenged Morrell and Lowery and the still learning Devlin, so Moxon would give us experience and height ( 6’1”).

Depth is a great problem to have.

Carlisle fan here.
Looks very likely that he’s going to be joining you lot. As good as he was last season, he has really struggled this season. Not putting it down to uncertainty over contracts, he has just struggled with the increase in quality in League 1.Big lad, technically looks the part but has very little pace. Set pieces have been garbage this season to the point he’s been taken off them. If I used a recent match with Oxford as an example, he was up against McGuane and Brannagan and there was literally Galaxy’s in difference between them and him. Genuinely no sour grapes, as a Carlisle lad I hope he does well for you but I will put a lot of money on him being sent out on loan next season if/when you get promoted because he isn’t Championship level in a million years unfortunately.

Dave.
Is it true you wouldn't have got promoted last season without him? Apparently he played that well and was in the team of the year for league 2. As you know, there isn't that much difference between league 1 and 2 apart from the top 8 sides in league 1 who are usually better teams with bigger budgets and larger fan bases. At thd end of last season he was due to get a move to Blackpool which for some reason or other fell through. He has not signed a new contract and that leaves an bad taste in the fans of those clubs so affected with these type issues. He has been distracted and badly mentored by his agent I have no doubt. The pressure on him to perform will not have been lost. Sometimes a 'single' player cannot carry the burden of his clubs aspirations. OM may just need a new start somewhere away from his present surroundings. With all due respect, our head of recruitment is doing a grand job and we are picking up players that have elevated us. Mousinho concentrates on tge football and our side is top of the league presently. If he comes here and plays with the 'better' players we have, he will gain and deliver on the pitch for us. I think I will trust the team at fratton that has delivered time and again over the last couple of transfer windows. I hope carlisle can move on and have a good season but wherever OM ends up may well be an improvement. Regards

Graham Coxon > Owen Moxon

I think JM sees him as one for the future and not so much as first X1 player this season.

JM: we will only sign players who improve us
Also JM: Owen Moxon ooovaaaavoooo

A nominal fee would be my bet and Carlisle are happy to get him off their books. He starts again with a clean slate here but with a decent, if there is such a thing, agent. Pompey will not be messed around by any 'Billy big bollox'. I could see JM letting him know what's what real quick.

News is reporting that Carlisle have placed too high a price on him for a deal to be done this TW. Pompey aren’t rushing into it as he’s not seen as essential for now.

With Pack, Morrell, Stevenson, Lowery, Devlin, Anjorin & Robertson already covering the midfield (and Jewitt-White if needed) I can see no justification in playing a big fee for a player that will be free in the summer, unless of course someone else comes in for him and pays the money they want - but there does not appear to be anyone else close to him and only 48 hours or so to go. He would be a great signing in the summer though, and probably good enough even if we go up.

Robertson-his season is probably over so to include him is a moot point DB. Stevenson-who knows but JM doesn't seem to trust him. Now before anyone points out how good Lowery was on saturday, he was but there was zero pressure from Vale & Morrell & TL did pretty much whatever they wanted. Plus of course can we rely on TL to produce week in week out? His injury record speaks for itself sadly.

The thing is, with Morrell and Lowery both being about 5’6” , there’s not a lot of height in midfield.

Agree about Pack but we're discussing our central midfielders ( the 2 in our 4231 system). P-H will play in the attacking midfield roles so I can't really see him be used anywhere else.
We have Pack,Morrell,Lowery, Stevenson and Devlin. Stevenson is out for a while and Pack is out currently ( short term hopefully). I'm not sure we actually need Moxon ( especially as he's 26). Is he any better than Pack,Morrell or Lowery? Maybe JM thinks otherwise. If we do go up then surely we'd need someone with a bit more creativity (Robertson?) at least.

I think whether or not he is championship level will be a consideration, he is 26 and up to the age of 24 he had only played at Scottish third tier level, and he has only one really good year on his CV when helping to win league 2 last year. He has not done much this year.

He is obviously a late developer, but there must be an element of risk with a player with that record. |
