Pretty close with my 12 predictions so far.
After six games we are on 14 instead of my predicted 12 - the brilliant away win at P'boro being the difference. I wouldn't change my mind about the remaining four games - draws with Bolton and Barnsley and wins against Wigan and Lincoln putting us on a total of 98 points. While 93 will definitely be enough for promotion I still think only 92 will be a good enough minimum.

Give Titchy some lessons, he's nought from 17 although there is a first, he says we'll beat Wigan. That's the first time he's forecasted a win!

Barnsley beaten by Stevenage tonight.

I think you can discount Peterborough as not being in it any more by all means, but not on the basis of goal difference. In the (let's assume) highly improbable event of us only gaining two more points from our four games AND of Peterborough winning all of their last six, it then becomes highly probable that their goal difference will be superior to ours by the end. Even if our two hypothetical defeats were each only by a single goal, and Peterborough's hypothetical six victories were each also by a single goal, that alone would cancel out our current goal difference advantage of eight. It seems unlikely that those six wins would all be by such a narrow margin. But in any case, given that they have so far scored several more goals than Pompey from two games fewer, they would also be ahead of us on goals scored. I don't think such a scenario is at all likely. But then I don't suppose any Pompey or Doncaster Rovers supporter thought it at all likely, after the infamous Crewe match in March 2017, that we would only drop four points from our last 12 games and that Rovers would fail to win any of their last five. As I see it, if we can at least match Derby and Bolton's results over the next two games, the title should be ours.

I think we will beat Barnsley, they are clearly struggling. Only 7 points from last 6 games.

You said if we draw at Bolton we only need one more point to guarantee promotion, which is incorrect. You're now moving the goalposts by saying you're not counting Peterborough because their goal difference is so far behind ours (only 8) with teams such as Port Vale, Fleetwood, Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham to play. Even your backtracking doesn't make sense. You're wrong and that's OK. Have a good day.

DeepBlue criticised my maths in an attempt to make himself look smart and to make me look bad. He didn't even get the maths correct himself! Now he's backtracking and is incorrect with that too! Hilarious.

You are right, I was wasn't including Peterborough and apparently you were without mentioning it. I still think that if we get a draw at Bolton then we will only need one more after that ... we'll see.

Posh are 7 behind us, not an impossible task, unlikely as we'll get enough points and Posh won't win all their remaining games.
They score well but also concede well 77-50 Pompey 71-36 when you think two of the games accounted for 7 goals it leaves 29 conceded in 40 games. It shows just how well defensively we've been. Twitchy Titchy don't like being reminded how good Raggs has been.

Deep - I did a full breakdown of all the scenarios on the previous page and if we get a draw with Bolton (and we discount the extremely unlikely Peterborough near perfect run in) you are totally correct we need only one point to get promoted. There's no arguing with it so I'm not sure why TB is. In fact I'm so confident that Peterborough won't do the unlikely I'll bet £100 with TB to a charity of our choosing that this won't happen.

"Maybe with my match predictions"
Maybe is an understatement, you've been wrong every single time with your predictions going back into January.

After tonights results all that has changed is we only need 4 points to be guaranteed as champions. With 3 we are promoted.
Played Points Points Left Max Points 1 Pompey 42 90 12 102 2 Derby 43 83 12 92 3 Bolton 42 81 12 93 4 Peterborough 41 77 18 92

We need 3 more points now for automatic promotion.

But of course Bolton can't get 93 points and Peterborough 92, since they face each other on the last day of the season. Until very recently it seemed as though that result might have an impact on Pompey's fate. It doesn't look like that now, thank goodness.
11-04-2024, 07:22 AM
With Derby's draw last night there are now three teams all scrapping for the last automatic promotion spot, each relying on the results of the other. This ramps up the pressure on them another few notches.
I don't believe for a minute that all three will fail to crack under that pressure. There will be slip ups. Nothing is going to stop us.
