Touché. It is rather a long word though.

We have a an option to extend Oliwayemi's for another year. Will be interesting if they exercise the option because he's not a mousinho guy. New managers tend to like their own goalies. I hope they do because he looks like he has potential.

Why is Oluwayemi not a Mousinho guy?

I don’t see JM being too worried about who signed him, he seems a bit more intelligent than that.

He reportedly had european clubs sniffing around when he signed for us. I can't help thinking that if that is still an option for him he might prefer that to staying here as a number two.
And promising though he is, I'd be nervous going into a season with him as the number one choice just yet.

But yes, everyone has to start somewhen and you never really find out how good they are till they get a run. Alternatively you can become a much better player just by being sold if you believe the opinions on McGillivray & Bass.

I was a great fan of Bass, and got laughed at when I suggested Premier clubs like Palace were monitoring him closely when he first broke into the team. But he was not as good as Bazunu, who is 4 years younger and Bass will probably never be worth 12m and a premiership regular like he is. But he might well have been as good as Griffiths, and IMO made a big mistake to leave to sit on the bench up north rather than fight for his place here against a loan keeper who could possibly get recalled in January. There was not that much between them but he was not prepared to stay and prove Cowley wrong, instead preferring to ruin his career by going somewhere where he was less likely to get games when games is what he needs at this stage of his career. Just for a bit more money. It's not unreasonable to suggest that he would be first choice right now if he had decided to stay.

I feel like a broken record with you regarding Bass, he was forced out of the club by DC, he wasn’t wanted. He couldn’t even get in to the squad for preseason friendlies. He was third choice. DC would never have dropped Griffiths for Bass and if you think he would you obviously witnessed nothing of DC’s management.
Ruin his career lol!! He could be in the Prem next year.

In the perhaps unlikely event of Sunderland going up, I wonder if they would feel confident with Bass on their bench, he having (as of now) not played for them in the Championship and with only 40-odd league appearances in total, all at L1 and (mostly) L2 level. My bet would be that they would move him on and find an experienced keeper coming towards the end of his career. I could - that word again - be totally wrong, of course.

They’ve got a better chance of being promoted to the Prem than we have of being promoted from L1. So he could either of stayed here in L1 not playing for a manager who didn’t want him or move to the Championship on higher wages and not play but train at a higher level, with better players and a manager who wants him. Definitely a bad career move, just like Jack.

But my main point was that if they did, which they may or may not, I wouldn't be too sure he'd remain their number 2 keeper. So he'd almost be back to square one, hardly any more games played at the age of 25, and looking for a club maybe at our level or perhaps lower-half of a Championship club. But with a few thousand pounds more in his bank account. DC would never have dropped Griffiths for Bass and if you think he would you obviously witnessed nothing of DC’s management. He played in three of the pre-season friendlies so how he did that while not in the squad for them I'll leave you to explain. He would have been second choice if he had stayed because Oluwayemi would not have been signed after his trial if Bass was not already on his way out. Yes, Cowley will have told him he was free to go, told him he was not going to be first choice, maybe even encouraged him to go to get a small fee. But he did not have to go. Cowley didn't hate him, he just didn't think he was as good as Bazunu or Griffiths. The idea that he would never have played him again is a nonsense - pure conjecture from those choosing to attack Cowley for not keeping him. Cowley sent him out on loan to Bradford saying he was doing it to get the games he needed to be a contender for no 1 this season and always said favourable things about him. He even said during the previous season that it was a close call between him and Bazunu at the start of the season. Bass was clearly pissed off that he had not got the first choice at PFC he been working towards all his career and made the decision to go. But had he refused to go he would probably now be our no 1 under a new manager. Instead he has not played a league game since he left, so I fail to see how you think that was a good career move.

He is small for a modern keeper and we have seen he is prone to error amongst his very impressive shot-stopping. He has potential and I would take up the option to try and keep him for next season as well, but if I'm honest I'd rather keep Macey as first choice.
